Parents' and Friends' Association

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Parents' and Friends' Association is the major parent body within the School. Its main function is to foster activities which will benefit the School and to act as a central liaison with all parent groups at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½.

The Parents' and Friends' Association has an elected Committee:

President: Patricia Melzer
Vice President: Susannah Martin
Treasurer: Keng Lim
Secretary: Annalisa Cummings
Elected P&F Nominee on School Board: Melissa Cadzow

and additional representatives from the following groups:

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Friends of Music
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Drama and Film Forum
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Football Parents' Committee
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Rowing Parents' Committee
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Soccer Parents' Committee
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Scouts' Group

The Committee meets twice a term and all parents and friends are welcome to attend. Please view the School Calendar for meeting dates.

The Parents' and Friends' Association organises social functions to enable parents to meet and enjoy each others' company. Additionally, it organises events such as the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Mother's Day Lunch and the Gala Ball. These events have the dual purpose of bringing the community together and raising funds for the School.

Objectives of the Parents' and Friends' Association

  • To further the welfare of the School.
  • To act as a central liaison organisation for all bodies within the School community.
  • In consultation with the Principal of the School, to apply funds for capital projects and equipment for the School.
  • To provide funds for scholarships and bursaries tenable at the School.

Drama and Film Forum

The Drama and Film Forum is a group of parents whose children study Drama and/or Film at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. Its role is to support the major productions in each year level in the Senior and Middle schools. These parents help with arranging meals during intensive rehearsal schedules, organise interval suppers and post-performance receptions for invited guests, and assist the Parents' and Friends' Association with its fundraising activities.

It is a genial body of volunteers and meetings are held only on a needs basis. There is a committee and a list of those willing to help if needed. Parents enjoy the opportunity to become involved in a supportive way in their children's productions.

Football Parents’ Committee

Football is a very strong and popular sport at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ and the Parents' Committee provides much valuable support for players across all year levels. This support comes in the form of providing refreshments and barbecues at matches, helping organise presentation nights and various fundraising activities. There is strong fellowship amongst the football parents, all of whom share a common interest in the sport and their children's involvement in it. New members are always welcome.

Parents of ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Scout Group

With a history dating back to the early days of King's College, the ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Scout Group has continued to flourish. The group currently has Joey, Cub, Scout and Venturer sections. Boys and girls in the age range 6 to 18 years are welcome to take part and the group focuses on a range of objectives - skills development, team building, environmental awareness and care, social and community service, developing respect for self and others, leadership and initiative - to name but a few. The Scouts and Cubs meet at the Scout Hut, located on campus, and also take part in activities such as camps and treks.

The ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Scout Group is led by a group of energetic and dedicated volunteers, most of whom have a long association with ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ (as parents or old scholars) and Scouts Australia. The Parents of ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Scout Group meets once a term and welcomes and encourages all parents of Scouts and Cub Scouts to be actively involved in supporting their children.

Meetings are held during term times at the Scout Hut, 5a Dunstan Ave, Kensington Park.

  • Venturers (15-18 year olds) - Friday evenings 7.00-10.00 pm
  • Scouts (11-15 year olds) - Friday evenings 7.00-9.00 pm
  • Cubs (8-10 year olds) - Thursday evenings 6.45-8.15 pm

ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Rowing Parents’ Committee

The rowing fraternity at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ is particularly strong and is well resourced with excellent facilities. The Rowing Parents' Committee is an active and dedicated group of parents who support regattas and organise fundraising activities and social programs.

Regatta support includes boat transport, BBQ trailer, shelter erection, fruit supplies and assistance for race officials. Funds raised go towards a boat replacement program.

The Committee provides much appreciated support for rowers, as well as good fellowship for parents, families and friends of rowers. The Committee is free for all parents to join and meets on the first Wednesday of each month. You will enjoy being involved and you will be welcomed.

Friends of Music

This Committee exists to actively promote and support all aspects of music at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½. The Committee is made up of parents who support the large number of students who are members of one or more of ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½'s music ensembles, such as choirs, orchestras and bands. The Committee is well managed by an elected body which encourages as many parents as possible to be actively involved.

The year is always a busy one, with concerts and performances to prepare for, as well as occasional special events and tours. The staff who conduct and look after these ensembles are supported by the tangible and considerable efforts of an active and committed parent body.

The Committee provides support to the Head of Music and the Music Department through assistance with functions and events, as well as fundraising. Funds raised by the Committee are applied to the purchase of musical instruments and other equipment. The Committee meets regularly throughout the School year. Smaller focus groups, each supporting the work of specific ensembles, also meet on a regular basis. The Committee is represented at, and reports to, each meeting of the Parents' and Friends' Association.
